How to Recover Lost Admin Password in Windows XP and Vista

  • Open Local Users and Groups.   • Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.
  • Right-click the account that you need to reset the password for, and then click Set Password.
  • Type and confirm the new password.

(Note – These steps cannot be fulfilled on Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium.)

How to Change Computer Name in Windows Vista and Windows 7

Alteration of PC names was very simple in Windows XP but with Windows Vista and Windows 7, it becomes hard to do the same.

To change the name of PC in Widows Vista and Windows 7, one has to work upon following three routes.

  • Type sysdm.cpl into the start menu search box (this is the quickest method)
  • Right-click on the Computer option on the start menu.
  • Open Control Panel, and go to System and Maintenance, and then System.

If you opt for one of the last two options, then you will have to click on Advanced System Settings, which is on the left menu.

In Windows Vista, you will find the “System” utility in Control Panel (System and Maintenance section) and in the left panel of the System screen; you will be finding “Advanced System Settings.”Now click on both, which will be opening “User Account Control” dialog box with a ‘continue’ tab.

In “Computer Name Changes” dialog box, you need to enter a new computer name and click on the [OK] button.

(Note – while changing computer name, you will have to keep in mind that a computer may have only 15 characters and allowed characters lie between a-z and 0-9 without any ‘hyphen’ and ‘spaces’.

To Change User Profile Name –

  • First click on “Start” button and then on “Control Panel.”
  • Now double-click on “User Accounts.”
  • This will be followed by a click on “Change an account,” then click the account name that you would like to change.
  • Now click on “Change the name.”
  • To give a new name to the user profile, type the desired name and you can also set a password for the same.

These steps will let you change your computer’s name as well as the name of user profile. Now give your computer your own recognition.
